Richard ( Dick ) Reeves

Richard “Dick” P. Reeves of Westernport passed away Wednesday morning at dawn, October 27, 2021. He was 90 years old.

Born during the Great Depression on February 18, 1931, Mr. Reeves was the youngest and last surviving son of the late Harry V. Reeves Sr. and Mae Catherine Reeves (nee Whetzel) and stepmother, Marie A. Reeves. He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard P. “Dickie Paul” Reeves, Jr.; brothers Harold, Harry, and Jim Reeves; stepbrother, Duke Mullan and stepsister, Margaret Morgan.

Mr. Reeves lived a full life. He was a 1949 graduate of Bruce High School in Westernport, Md. and attended Potomac State College in Keyser, WV. He was a veteran of the U.S. military, having served in the U.S. Army Reserves and the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Driven by his passion for motorcycle and automobile mechanics, he owned and operated Dick Reeves Garage and Towing for nearly 70 years and served as a dedicated volunteer for the Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sherriff’s Department, and multiple local communities and emergency responder units. He was also an active member of the Tri-Towns Lions Club, the American Legion, Post 155 in Westernport, and the VFW, Post 3518 in Keyser. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, following NASCAR, and cheering on WVU Mountaineer football. In his younger years, he competed in motorcycle racing and hill climbing.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his six daughters, Joy Warren and husband Wayne of Germantown, MD; Jill Gentry of Scottsdale, AZ; Rebecca Reeves-Tufano and husband Joe of York, PA; Caroline Reeves-Novotny of Frederick, MD; Paula Reeves of Cumberland, MD; Rachael Reeves and partner Mark Wigfield also of Cumberland, MD.

He is survived by his seven grandchildren, Brandon Warren and wife Samantha, Lauren Warren, Andrew Novotny, Amanda Tufano, Anthony Tufano, Armando Carrasquillo, and Olivia Wigfield. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Avery and Brooke Warren.

Mr. Reeves is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at The Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, WV. On Sunday October 31, 2021, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating with inurnment following in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.

Family request anyone attending the service to please wear your mask.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking friends and loved ones to make a donation to the Tri-Towns Ambulance and Rescue Squad of Westernport, Md.
