Margaret Grace (Peg) Amyot  85 of  Westernport, MD  passed away at her home on  June 11, 2019 with family by her side. Peg lived an active life filled with family and friends, community and professional activities.

Peg was born in Cohoes, NY on July 6, 1933 to George and Thelma  (Clermont ) Burger. She married André Aubrey (Andy) Amyot, also of Cohoes, and they relocated to Westernport in 1959. Peg and Andy enjoyed their large family of six children: Mark Amyot and wife Debbie," deceased", of Rawlings MD, Michelle (Amyot) Layman and husband Mike of Frostburg MD, Bob Amyot of Moscow MD, Maribeth Amyot of Baltimore, Joe Amyot and wife Lori of Yorktown, VA, and Drew Amyot and wife Jaime of Frostburg; ten grandchildren: Christine (Amyot) Hurley and husband Ben, Matt Amyot and wife Danielle, Lucas Layman and wife Alyson, Rose Layman, Bryce Amyot, Gregory Amyot, Timothy Amyot and wife Kim, Meredith Amyot, Sarah Amyot, and Daniel Amyot; and six great-grandchildren: Conner Hurley, Addison Hurley, Cameron Hurley, Genevieve Layman, Emmett Amyot, and Marcus Amyot.

Peg was preceded in death by her husband Andy, her parents George and Thelma, her brother George Burger, and her sister Marlene (Burger) Murray.

Peg and her family shared many happy times. She especially cherished family gatherings at Deep Creek Lake, holiday celebrations, Buffalo Bills football games, West Virginia University basketball games, and seeing her children and grandchildren in academic, athletic, and musical activities and life events. Peg traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad with Andy, her children, and friends. A true people-person and conversationalist, Peg was blessed with many dear friends. She enjoyed their outings together – playing bridge, taking in shows, and discussing current events.

Always active in the community, Peg served on the Allegany County Housing Authority for several years. She was a member of the Tri-Towns Rotary Club and served a term as its president. Peg regularly volunteered at Past Perfect, a boutique store that benefits Western Maryland Health Systems. She served on the Reeves Foundation, an organization that awards grants to area charities and university scholarships to deserving local students. She also volunteered her time to support various youth activities through the schools and community.

A talented vocalist, Peg sang in several community and church choirs. She was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. For many years, she taught religious education to high school students through Saint Peter’s CCD program.  She was delighted to stay in touch with her former students.

Professionally, Peg was credentialed as a realtor and an appraiser. For several decades, she represented many individuals and organizations during real estate transactions in the Tri-Towns and beyond. Earlier in her career, Peg worked as a librarian in the Allegany County Library system, work aligned with her life-long passion for reading and learning. She also co-owned and co-managed The Flower Bay in Piedmont, WV.

Visiting hours will be held at Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, WV  on Monday, June 17 from 4 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Paul Byrnes as the celebrant at 11 AM on Tuesday June 18, immediately followed by burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Divine Mercy/ Saint Peter’s Church, 127 Church Street, Westernport, MD 21562.
