William Freeman

William H. Freeman “Beans” 82 of Quality St., Westernport, MD died at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV on August 12, 2016. Bill was born in Lonaconing, MD on January 8, 1934 and was the son of the late Gilson and Katherine(Foote) Freeman.

He was a 1952 graduate of Central High School in Lonaconing. He served in the United Sates Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He was a member of Victory Post # 155 American Legion in Westernport.

Bill attended St. Peter Catholic Church in Westernport, MD. He retired from Westvaco Corporation in Luke in 2000 with over 39 years of service. He was the Shift Engineer in the Power and Recovery Department at the time of his retirement. He held memberships in the Eagles in Cresaptown, Moose in Keyser, Elks in Oakland and was a longtime member of the Oakland Golf Club and Mill Creek Country Club. He was a former member and drummer of the Blue Angels and Freestatesmen Drum and Bugle Corps.

He was an avid golfer, skier and driver for the VA Van to the Martinsburg VA Center. He was an avid  Baltimore Orioles and Maryland Terps fan.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret (Divine) Freeman; his son Thomas Freeman and wife Kathy of Westernport; his daughter Jeanne A. Murry of Charlotte, NC; his grandsons, Bill Freeman and Micheal Murry; his granddaughters, Claire Murry and Katrina Freeman; and one sister, Ruth Freeman of Lonaconing, MD. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandson in October.

The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, WV on Monday, Aug. 15 from 4 until 8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter Catholic Church in Westernport on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. with Monsignor Paul Byrnes as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Veteran’s Honor Guard from Cumberland, MD.

The family request that Memorials for Bill be directed to the American Cancer Society, 24 S Centre St. Cumberland, MD. 21502
