Sandra Chilcote

Sandra Gretchen Chilcote, 89, of Piedmont, WV, passed away on February 1, 2023, in Douglassville, PA.  Born on April 26, 1933, in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of late William Rex and Olga (Johnson) Chilcote.

Sandra graduated from Piedmont High School in 1951, where she was active in the literary society, the school newspaper, and the Tri-Hi-Y.  She then went to Catherman's Business School in Cumberland, MD, where she completed a commercial course in 1952.

She began her 37 years with AT&T as a telephone operator, starting in the Piedmont office.  There was a two year interlude when she worked at the Kelly Springfield plant in Cumberland.  She then returned to AT&T in Cumberland before retiring as an operator in Hagerstown, MD.

She was a loving and faithful daughter.  After retiring, she cared for her mother.  They traveled to Florida, New York City, Las Vegas, California, and Hawaii, among other destinations.

Sandra was a life-long member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church, giving her talents, time and pledges to the Church.  As a member of the Worship Committee, she prepared the communion table.  She sang with the choir, taught an adult Sunday School Class for over 25 years, and assisted the treasurer by counting donations to Sunday services and taking the total to the bank the next day.  She was Elder, helped with the food pantry, and was active in the Presbyterian Women of the Church and Church Woman United.

Sandra was a charitable person, not only to organizations but to family, friends and neighbors.  She was a "giver".

Since 2020, she made her home with her nephew, Michael, and his wife, Mary and their daughters, Emily and Jessica.  After 3 years of excellent care, she died of natural causes on February 1, 2023.

She will be missed by her sister, Diane Chilcote Cline (Paul); a brother, Michael Rex Chilcote (Christina); loving nieces, Alice Cline Morris (Bruce), Camille N. Cline, Erin Chilcote King (Chris); her nephew, Michael Rex Chilcote II (Mary); great-nieces, Emily Chilcote, Jessica Chilcote, Michelle Morris, Leigh Morris Gregory (Philip), Kemper Bernstein; great-nephews, Eric Morris (Nicole), John Bernstein; great-great nephews, Alvah and Whit Gregory; and great-great niece, Madeline Morris.

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, 31 Jones St., Piedmont, WV, on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in the Piedmont Presbyterian Church, 63 Ashfield St., Piedmont, at 11 AM with worship leader, Lori Evans, officiating. Interment will follow in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.
