Christopher Jonathan Green, 54, of Cumberland, MD and formerly of Piedmont, WV died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morganton WV surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 23, 1962 in Keyser, WV. He was the sixth son and ninth child of Doris Green of Piedmont and Nathaniel “Nate” Green who preceded him in death..

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Doris (Redman) Green of Piedmont, WV and his loving wife Kathy L Green of Cumberland, MD.  He is also survived by  a daughter, Nate’a K Green and Companion Ryan A Green of Cumberland, MD, a son, Nathaniel C. Green and Companion Lakiah Powell of Cumberland MD, and Step daughter, Jami M Sponaugle and Husband Troy of Cumberland MD, and step-son Levi A Carpenter of Morgantown WV. Grandchildren, King A Green of Cumberland MD. Kaylee R Eversole of Cumberland MD.  Trent A Sponaugle of Cumberland MD. Emily B Sponaugle of Cumberland MD. Baby Kash, Chris newest grandson, Baby Kash is expected in February 2018

Christopher’s transition leaves a missing link in the Green family chain Left to carry on the family legacy are N, Richard “Richie”: Green (Elaine) of Piedmont WV.  Robert E (Woodie) Green (Renee) of Akron Ohio. Ethel “Star” Green (Companion Danny Mays) of Oakland California. Charles (Chuck) Green (Kitty) of Charleston WV. Toni A Brooks (Tony) of Cumberland MD. Tommy M Green (Companion Jo-Ann Cook) of Keyser WV. Roger L Green (Tina) of Piedmont WV. Doris E “Eve” Redman (Winston) of Keyser WV. Erick O Green (Tamara) of Winchester VA. He also leaves to celebrate his life a host of relatives, friends, co-workers and teammates.

Christopher was a 1981 graduate of Keyser High School where he played basketball, ran track and most notably was named “Mr. Hustle” for the varsity football team. He played football at Potomac State College and went on to earn his Associate’s Degree in 1983. He attended West Virginia University studying Engineering. He was employed as an engineer for CSX Transportation for over 23 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Local 934 (East End) He was an avid weightlifter and bodybuilder. His interest in young people led to taking an active role coaching football for the West End Hunters and little League baseball.

He loved spending time with his family and extended family and especially his grandchildren. Chris relished his responsibility of roasting the turkey for the Green family’s annual Christmas gathering. He also did his fair share of impersonating Santa to the delight of the entire family. He was kind and compassionate with a heart of gold. To no one’s surprise, he made it his personal mission to pass along his father’s name, Nate to the next generation naming his daughter “Nate’a” and son Nate.

A Celebration of Christopher’s Life will be held at the American Legion located at 66 S Main St Keyser WV 26726 on Saturday Nov. 18, 2017. The Green family will receive Friends Saturday from 12pm to 2pm followed by a service of remembrance with refreshments and fellowship to follow.
